The Bachelor of Science in Computing programme at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has been accredited once again by the UK’s Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This programme, first accredited by the IET in 2011, is the earliest engineering degree programme in Macao successfully going through international academic review. Students of this programme from the 2009/2010 cohort onwards are eligible upon graduation to obtain internationally recognised professional qualifications in the UK.

With Information Technology as one of its major disciplines, MPI is devoted to research in wireless communication, cyber security, artificial intelligence, multimedia, and gaming technologies while being actively engaged in IT education, training and science popularisation activities. To ensure its consistent alignment with international standards, MPI’s Computing programme invited the IET to conduct another round of comprehensive review earlier this year. The outcome was announced in late June, which confirmed that the programme got through the review with the highest quality rank. The programme was therefore granted the accreditation status from 2009/2010 till 2020/2021. The review team praised the programme in terms of faculty composition, programme design, community services, learning environment and graduate performance, highlighting the international standards the programme has attained.

The IET is one of the world’s leading engineering technology professional academic institutions. Currently it has more than 160,000 members in 127 countries and regions in the world. It is a prestigious international institution of engineers and one of the world’s largest certification bodies for qualifications of engineers. Authorised by the UK’s Engineering Council, it can grant engineers globally recognised qualifications. The UK’s Engineering Council was one of the first organisations signing the Washington Accord and the Sydney Accord. Being accredited by the IET means that MPI’s Computing programme is simultaneously recognised by the accord signatories. Qualified graduates of this programme are thus eligible to apply for professional engineering qualifications in these countries/regions, significantly expanding their career prospects.
